Play is learning
Pretend play, block building and free imagination fill most of the day. It is where friendships, language and confidence grow.
At Little Sunflower there is room for big feelings, muddy shoes after the afternoon rain and long conversations about snails – in English and in Mandarin. We are a small, independent preschool in a restored 1930s bungalow, with 68 children, a big leafy garden and a kitchen that smells of fresh banana bread every morning.
“Can we come back tomorrow too?”– Chloe, 4
Children learn best when they feel safe, curious and unhurried. So we work in small, steady groups with the same teachers every day – and we never rush past a snail on the garden path.
Pretend play, block building and free imagination fill most of the day. It is where friendships, language and confidence grow.
Outdoors every day, rain or shine. Every Thursday our K1 and K2 children head out to explore the park connector and the nearby nature reserve.
Each class has an English and a Mandarin teacher side by side, so children hear both naturally – through songs, stories and play, never drills.
Auntie Siti cooks every meal from scratch in our halal-certified kitchen – and the children love helping to wash the vegetables.
Our day follows a familiar rhythm, so children know what comes next – and can throw themselves completely into what is happening right now.
We open with a warm breakfast – porridge, eggs or fruit – and quiet play in the reading nook for early risers.
We sing good morning in English and 早上好 in Mandarin, count who is here and talk about the day and the weather.
Art studio, movement, language games or a nature walk – each class follows its own weekly plan.
A freshly cooked hot lunch every day. The children set the table and serve themselves.
Little ones nap in our cool, quiet sleep room under the ceiling fans. Older children rest with a good book.
Fruit, soft buns and homemade kueh – often with papaya or bananas from our own garden.
Sandpit, water table and trike track. When the afternoon rain rolls in, we move to the veranda for drawing and music.
We always share a little about the day at pick-up – and send parents a few photos and a short note every afternoon.
Little Sunflower lives in a lovingly restored 1930s bungalow on a quiet lane in Kembangan. Inside there are high ceilings, timber louvres and cosy corners; outside there is a garden with a great rain tree, planter beds, a water-play deck and a little hill that is perfect for rolling down.
Sixteen permanent staff, all trained in early childhood education. Many have been with us for more than ten years, and we almost never use relief teachers the children don't know.

Leads our Thursday nature walks and knows more about beetles and geckos than most people thought possible.
Lead Mandarin teacher
Brings Mandarin to life with puppets, picture books and songs – and gently supports families who don't speak it at home.
Head cook
Has cooked for Little Sunflower for 12 years. Her fish porridge has a fan club of 68.
Little Sunflower is a licensed childcare centre, so Singapore Citizen children are eligible for the government Basic Subsidy, and families may qualify for the Additional Subsidy on top. We are happy to walk you through what applies to you.
We close for up to 6 teacher development days a year and let you know at least 3 months ahead.
Full-day fees before subsidies, incl. GST. Breakfast, lunch and tea break included. One-time registration fee S$150.
Siblings get priority. We usually welcome around 20 new children each year.
The settling-in was so calm and thoughtful. Daniel had time for Anika and for us – and after two weeks she ran in without looking back.
We don't speak Mandarin at home, so we worried. Laoshi Wang and the team have been wonderful – now Ethan teaches us words over dinner and corrects our tones.
The food alone would be reason enough. But it's the teachers who make the difference – they truly know every single child. All three of ours have been through Little Sunflower.
The best way to get to know Little Sunflower is to visit. Do bring your child along – there is always kopi for the grown-ups and fresh juice for the little ones.
